. EAGLE CANOE CLUB – Kayak Paddle Date – Sunday 28th May 2023
Where – Blakeney Harbour area, North Norfolk coast
What – An activity for kayaks NOT canoes. The intention is to paddle from the car park by the Quay at Blakeney , explore the local area and return to the same car park. Its an opportunity to paddle on salty water in this area rather than a lengthy trip. We will not be paddling out to Blakeney Bar nor going out to the sea beyond the bar.
What’s it like? - Once we have left the the car park area, its an area of relatively open water ,although sheltered by the land spit, so it's possibly more suitable for paddlers who can make progress even in windy conditions or water with a slight flow. The trip will not run if especially strong winds are forecast. You might wish to check the forecasts yourself and see if this is might be an issue for you. Water depths will vary so you need to be used to getting in and out of your kayak. Whilst It's not suitable for your first ever time in a kayak it is intended to be suitable for anyone who can paddle their kayak and wishes to experience salty water in a relatively sheltered environment, possibly for the first time , it is not deep sea kayaking! By all means ask your instructor at the club whether they think its suitable for you to come. If you can paddle to Hellesdon Mill and back from the club without undue effort that’s a good indication that you will be Ok for this activity.
Meet at the club 1015 hrs for 1030 hrs departure.
What to bring? The usual items for a day trip, including waterproofs, additional clothing, packed lunch and drinks packed in waterproof containers.
The car park – is a pay and display car park. National trust members can park for free , so bring your National trust parking pass/ membership card. This car park can get busy.
Transport, cars and roof racks As with all our trips we are dependent upon club members assisting with transport both for paddlers and boats. If you need a lift I suggest asking other members who might be going on Wednesdays club night, don’t leave it until Sunday morning.
Please sign up using the club website if you are interested in attending by Wed 24th May 1830 hrs.
Cheers
Tim Wilby
