Description

River Yare Trip Bawburgh to Earlham road bridge, possibly Cringleford Bridge. Will be determined nearer the time.

When : Sunday 10th November 2019.

Meeting at the canoe club for 0930 hrs. To load up and move to the put in, Bawburgh village green.

What : a river trip along a delightful stretch of the River Yare. Starting at the village of Bawburgh , from the river green immediately below the Mill.

Where to? Either down to Earlham road bridge or poss down to Cringleford river bridge. There are no changing facilities at either end .

How far : Its not a long trip , recognising the time of year . If you can paddle confidently and comfortably up to Hellesdon Mill from the club and back on a club night then you should be OK for this trip.

Whats involved: Its a quiet river sometimes slightly overgrown which adds to its charm. The waters can be swift flowing (for Norfolk) and in many stretches its clear and shallow waters. Its a nice trip for those looking to have a go at undertaking a trip , reinforcing whats been learnt on a club night. Also gives the opportunity to see the newest river bridge in Norwich The one many people do not know about!

Finishing time will depend upon paddlers abilities (speed) , river conditions (weed, trees etc.) time spend on portages etc. but we will get back to the Centre by early /mid afternoon .

What do you need?

  1. You need to be able to paddle this distance!

2.Your normal paddling kit, paddle, B/aid, Cag, deck, kneelers for canoes.

  1. Food and drink for the paddle. Hot drinks will be useful at this time of year.

  2. Suitable paddling clothing, water/wind proofs and spare clothing for the day. Check the forecast before heading out. Will the weather change before we finish paddling? Do you need warm hat and gloves?

  3. Spare clothing for the end of the trip

  4. Any medical kit you may need during the day

  5. Waterproof containers, dry bags etc. for all this kit

  6. Someone to paddle with? If you would prefer to paddle double in a canoe please get it sorted before turning up on the day.

As usual we are dependent upon members using their vehicles to do the necessary moving of canoes/kayaks and care driving / shuttling. Those with roof rack space especially welcome! A trailer is not laid on for this trip.

Please let me know if you’re coming Use the online sign up facility. Please check the website on the Saturday evening, 9th November around 1800 hrs if you’re thinking of coming , so I can let you know if anything’s changed or cancelled. In the event of a bad weather forecast I may postpone this trip as I want paddlers to enjoy, rather than endure this paddle.

Do please use the the online sign up facility to let me know if you're thinking you would like to come. . By all means ask other coaches , those experienced members who have paddled this route in the past whether its a trip for you.
