EAGLE CANOE CLUB – Paddle on Sunday 9th December 2018 . Date – Sunday 9th December 2018
Where – River Wensum – Attlebridge to Eagle Canoe Club, Norwich.
What – A paddle from Attlebridge (128168) to Eagle Canoe Club, Norwich. The intention is to paddle from The Street , Attlebridge (road accessed from the main road , the A1067) down to Eagle Canoe Club, Norwich.
What’s it like? - Its a river paddle , along waters not paddled by us very often. Its a paddle of about 20 km ( 12.5 miles) , with at least two portages , one at Taverham Mill, the other at Costessey Mill. The Taverham portage is approx. the length of the portage at New Mills , Norwich. You may want to consider a trolley, depending on what you plan to paddle.
To enjoy this trip you will need to have sufficient experience, ability and strength to paddle this sort of distance. For information the distance to Hellesdon Mill from the club and back is approx 6 Km (3.75 miles) . This trip is considerably longer. If you want to consider paddling with a partner , there is a club night this coming Wednesday, 5th December 2018 when you could seek such a partner.
Experienced paddlers may like to bring a saw, loppers just in case of overgrown vegetation although stretches of the river visible from the road look clear.
Meet at the club 0915 hrs for 0930 hrs departure. We might well drive and paddle straight away from the get in point, returning drivers to the start point after the trip.
What to bring?
The usual items for a day trip, including waterproofs, additional clothing, snacks, packed lunch and drinks packed in waterproof containers. A head torch might be a useful in case of delay.
Transport, cars and roof racks As with all our trips we are dependent upon club members assisting with transport both for paddlers and boats. If you need a lift I suggest asking other members who might be going on Wednesdays club night, ideally don’t leave it until Sunday morning. Those without roof racks can also assist by returning drivers after the trip to pick up cars from the get in point.
Online sign up is available for this trip. Use of this facilty means the organiser can see the level of interest ahead of the event, any comments made , have in one place an email contact list of those interested and have emergency contact information to hand. Please indicate what sort of craft you are likely to paddle and if you have already agreed to paddle with another paddler and who that is!
