Description

.Eagle Canoe Club- WEDNESDAY 15th May 2024 Update : If you would like to do the trip outlined below but don't have your own craft, kit , but do have car / roof rack space it may be possible to access the club earlier ( 6 pm.) to collect a club boat. If this is of interest to you please indicate it in the sign up notes.

What: An evening trip for self contained paddlers with access to and the means of getting their craft to the starting and returning point at The Watering, by Thorpe Green, Yarmouth Road, Thorpe St Andrews. From the put in we have a variety of options from paddling up and into Norwich (River Yare and Wensum) , up towards Trowse Mill (River Yare) or downstream towards Bramerton Woods End (River Yare) . If you can paddle making good controlled progress , confidently and comfortably up to Hellesdon Mill from the club and back on a club night then you should be Ok for any of the proposed options. I envisage we will be of the water by 2030 hrs.

When : WEDNESDAY 15th May 2024. Meet at the get in point at 1830 hrs. A nearby business has a post code of NR7 0ET.

What's involved? Meet at the get in point. There is a lay-by close to the get in point, if full it might be a case of unloading quickly close to the get in point and then park on the roadside nearby walking back to the actual get in point, a small grassy area off Yarmouth road giving immediate access to the river. Its the Norwich side of Thorpe Church , at Thorpe Green. We will return to the get in point .

Do remember to bring a selection of clothing, including a waterproof, so you can cope with whatever the weather does, a head torch and also a change of clothing in a dry bag , which can be carried with you should you get wet. If you have and know how to use it a towline and a spare paddle and the means to carry it , these would also be useful.

Interested in coming ? Please use the online signing up system , to give me an indication of numbers and what sort of craft you will be paddling. For newer members do please talk to an instructor and check whether this trip is suitable for you.

Many thanks Tim Wilby
